Residential Solar Rebates
Residential Solar Rebates Australia: 2025 National Guide for Homeowners
In 2025, Australian homeowners have access to a variety of solar rebates, interest-free loans, and battery incentives that make transitioning to clean energy more affordable than ever. Whether you’re installing solar panels, adding a battery, or upgrading your inverter, this page outlines the national rebate framework and links to state-specific guides for tailored information through our Solar Rebates hub.
If you’re a business owner, discover tailored incentives for commercial installations via our Commercial Solar Rebates hub.
Federal Solar Rebates for Households
The federal Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) is the main rebate available to homeowners.
- STC Rebate Value: ~$250-$360 per kW of solar panels (varies by location)
- Eligibility:
- System must be under 100 kW
- Equipment must be CEC-approved
- Installed by a Clean Energy Council-accredited installer
Homeowners do not need to apply directly. The STC value is deducted from your invoice by your solar retailer.

Powering Partnerships

Federal Battery Rebate - Starts July 2025
From 1 July 2025, batteries are included in the federal SRES program.
- Rebate Value: ~$330-360 per kWh (up to 50 kWh of usable capacity)
- Eligibility:
- Systems must be installed by CEC-accredited providers
- Batteries must be approved and, if grid-connected, VPP-capable
This can significantly reduce battery costs for both new and retrofit installs.
Interest-Free Loans and Local Grants
Several states offer zero-interest loans or local government rebates for residential solar and battery systems.
- NSW Empowering Homes: Up to $14,000 loan for solar+battery installs
- VIC Solar Homes: Up to $1,400 rebate and matching interest-free loan
- Council Rebates: Some LGAs offer additional grants or co-funding
See your state’s guide below for detailed criteria.
